My blogs

deformingprisms features posts by me and various other authors on a wide range of topics related to new music. The blog aspires to be a catalyst for conversation and collaboration among emerging composers, performers, and new music enthusiasts. Occasionally I re-post essays from the blog on my “posts” page (tab above).

My Classical Improvisation Project blog is the result of an independent study project I completed in Fall quarter 2014 with Chris Malloy and Jonathan Leathwood acting as my faculty advisors. I began my classical improvisation project thinking that improvisation would help me to grow as a composer. Along the way, I discovered that improvisation is in no way an isolated activity, but is in constant conversation with every area of musical life.
